Poem - My Uncles Farm
Down the South of the country
Past cities, many towns
And endless grass and eucalyptus trees
Lived my Uncle on his farm
Such a long drive from a little sleepy country town
Past so many huge trees by the road
Past many other farms and paddocks
Nestled in a secret nook no-one would ever find
In its own little world
Appeared, a little farm cottage house
Amongst a healthy bright green garden
And out in the distance, vast lush green hilly paddocks
You immediately see a small lake down behind the cottage and down behind a few fruit trees
"Ruff ruff!" You meet Woody my uncles large golden beige farm dog. He is young and loves his free adventurous life on the farm!
Inside the cottage feels like a cozy cabin. You feel it has history as it has some age to it. The kitchen and dining area is to the left overlooking the back garden and small lake and living area is to the right with a hearty fireplace. The bedrooms are in the back of the house.
It's time to take a walk around the farm so I go down to the first farm gate and then walk along the dirt track next to the cattle paddocks. It's a beautiful beautiful bright day and I hear beautiful bird call from little birds and sometimes see sparrows playing around on the paddock fence. As I keep walking I see the herd of light brown cattle. I feel like they are very intelligent and aware and friendly.
The cattle stare at me in a friendly way as I keep walking.
Eventually I reach a grassy hill and start climbing up it for fun and to get a view from the top.
I trudge through the thick lush farm grass making my way steadily to the top.
When I reach the top I sit down for awhile and admire the beautiful view. I can see so far into the distance and see beautiful blue-green mountains far in the distance. I really feel like my breath is taken away. This travel has made me feel and realize what a huge country I live in.
When you have a beautiful view like that, you just have to stay there for a while taking the moment and everything in.
Soon enough it's time to head back and the walk back is much the same.
Back at the cottage I walk with my mum into the back garden and down to the small lake. I am so happy when I see a group of kangaroos on the farm in the distance.
My uncle points out to us areas where he is planting patches of native trees around the edges of the farm.
I also spot a beautiful big red king parrot in a tree nearby.
Those are my main memories of visiting my uncles farm, a truly lovely place.
