Poem - Nature Walk 1st April 2025
As I get out of the car
I see a magpie above me on a branch
Another sweet friend
I've made again
The park is before us
A path leading into a small forest of tall trees
While down the road in the distance
The mountains can be seen
And the great forest surrounding the pine River
We start our walk
Stepping around a fallen old tree
Since the cyclone
Likes of this we often see
Walking along
We feel so small compared to the trees
And I hear birds
Butcher birds and other birds
Singing in their nature home
With their friends they know they're not alone
The colours of nature
Green and Brown
Surround us now
There's so many different types of trees here
We walk eventually slowly uphill
And through trees and trees
Suddenly I spot
High up in a grand eucalyptus tree
A koala, huddled up sleeping in the tree fork
So excited we take photos
And the koala wakes from us
Sleepily looking in our direction
So wonderful to know koalas live here
So close to home
Truly my neighbour
We walk along uphill through the many trees
Through the trees we see glimpses of a view
Of the far mountains so beautiful and vast
And around here I see wildflowers
Little yellow daisies with dark green groundcover
The same I saw at Mungarra Reserve
And other tiny yellow flowers on a sprawling weed vine
All the same they brighten our day
And along by the forest
We see a sweet bush turkey
Black with their fan tail and red heads
A beautiful part of nature
Living harmoniously
Finally we reach the end at the top of the hill
The walk the way back is much the same
And I hear 4 or 5 different species of birds, some forest birds, and some more suburban birds
A beautiful forest walk
That we found
Just on the edge of town.
