An exposure therapy technique to help with Anxiety and Social Anxiety
I thought of this technique to help with my social anxiety about going places. Because I do want to get out of my comfort zone and push myself and have new life experiences, and I think that's a great goal for everyone.
So this exposure therapy technique is basically just taking very small steps at a time towards the place you are anxious about.
So I would tell myself all I have to do is go to the carpark of the place, then can go home if I like. But, if I do feel ok, even after 5 or 10 minutes of waiting and observing the environment and calming myself, I can then take just one little step further and go to the entrance of the place, just to the door or inside the entrance, then can turn around and go home if I want. But if I do feel ok, I can go a bit further, and take several more steps like this until I'm at the location I'm interested in.
After doing this technique with a live music venue at a restaurant, I lost my fear of this place and I now feel ok going there.
I hope this exposure therapy technique helps you if you have anxiety or social anxiety because never forget life is meant to be lived to the fullest!
