How to heal yourself emotionally through journalling

One technique I have thought of to heal yourself emotionally is this.  You may have some things or many things from your life that caused you trauma or great negative emotions.  I've been finding it's emotionally healing to think of each separate emotional issue and all you do is write down and express ALL of your thoughts and feelings related to that emotional issue.  What are ALL of the thoughts in your head about that issue?  And write down all the emotions and feelings you've had related to that emotional issue.  This technique seems to release some sort of weight and be so freeing emotionally to your body!
